We will deliver 3 workshops for Year 9 students at the Haywood Academy (Stoke-On-Trent) this week. Starting on the 16th November 2021, the workshops will run until the 18th November.

The activity is called the Toxic Popcorn Challenge and introduces students to the engineering design process (EDP), the process engineers use to solve design challenges. Students will work in teams to design a product and process to safely remove ‘toxic’ popcorn. The popcorn has an estimated safe life of exactly 5 minutes before it explodes. Students will build and test a system to transfer the popcorn to a safe container for decontamination before it contaminates and destroys the entire city.

Each session will be led by General Electric volunteers, alongside one of our Connectr facilitators! Each workshop will reach 30 students.
